A quick update on the student’s progress at Univ. of North Florida
Through lots of letters and conversations the students have gotten the administration to agree to a “Lunch and Listen” session where they will be able to ask questions and submit feedback about this situation. While it isn’t the win they were hoping for it is progress. We applaud the university’s courage for opening the dialogue with the students about their concerns surrounding the topics canceled at Sex Week.
As a reminder, it isn’t JUST Polyamory that has come under attack. The administration has also attacked classes on Kinky lifestyle and Sex Ed classes focused on responsible use of Sex toys by adults. These are equally important and should be addressed in the letters of support. With your continued support things can change. Keep those letters coming in support of the student’s right to access comprehensive sex educations that includes alternatives to monogamy, kinky lifestyle choices, and Sex toy inclusive Sex Ed.
With the many intersectional communities that are represented under the “Ethical Non-Monogamy” umbrella we need to be sure that we are representative and supportive of that intersectionality and support all of our community. Especially, in this situation.
We have an opportunity to affect future leaders in our community and shape their idea of what intersectionality looks like in a campaign for equal protections. We cannot become single minded and focused on our own bubble when so many people can be affected by this action of the University administration. Including those who may not be a part of our community.
Yes, our organization focuses on Polyamory and other forms of ethical non-monogamy, but we believe that EVERYONE has the right to form the relationships that work for them. We believe that no matter your gender, gender identity, race, color, religion (creed), gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, sexual identity, or military status, we believe you deserve and have the right to access the most informative and comprehensive Sex education possible. This includes information about Sex toys and their proper use and hygiene around them, the existence of and safe practice of relationship activities and styles that differ from the script of monogamy, and the information to make an informed choice about what is best for each individual involved.
To those who have donated funds, be assured those funds are being directly and 100% forwarded to the student groups involved. Please continue sending donations.
Thank you all for your continued support of the students in our community during this time.
