Relationship Equality Foundation’s National Comments on the Orlando Pulse Nightclub Shootings
Atlanta, GA –
As news continues to pour out of Orlando, the Relationship Equality Foundation stands with all who are affected by the shootings that occurred early Sunday morning. Our deepest condolences go out to those who are located in the Central Florida area, and their families, that are directly or indirectly dealing and processing the recent horrific events.
We would like to reiterate President Obama’s remark made during his press release Sunday afternoon stating that, “….This is a sobering reminder that attacks on any American — regardless of race, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation — is an attack on all of us and on the fundamental values of equality and dignity that define us as a country.”
The Relationship Equality Foundation, its members, directors, and staff support tolerance, peace, and education about all relationships, especially those non-traditional relationships that take place within the LGBTQ+ community. We hope to continue to provide education and spread a peaceful message of love and tolerance in the days and months to come after this attack.
In an effort to help in some small measure to ease the impact in the upcoming days, please use these resources:
– If you have friends or family in the Orlando area and are not sure of their status, please call the hotline: 407-246-4357
– There is a need for O-Negative Blood, O Positive Blood and AB Plasma. The Red Cross set up additional locations that will ship blood to Orlando. Please see the locations here.
– If you wish to help with supporting the victims’ families, please review the GoFundMe page that has been created Equality Florida
– Please contact the Relationship Equality Foundation if you are in need of further assistance.
REF is an educational nonprofit and as such our goal is always to provide education to improve the equality of all relationships. If you encounter a situation where ethical, informed educational training could improve communication, bridge understanding, or open a dialogue among people, please contact us for educational resources.
